Rūta Cyrolytė
I am Rūta Cyrolytė, a graphic designer, illustrator, and self-publishing and book production enthusiast (currently) based in Kaunas, Lithuania. I enjoy dipping my fingers into various media, combining them, applying the principles of one to another, and seeing what results. Currently, I mostly work with analog printing (linocut, screen printing, risography), self-publishing books, illustration, and running workshops in these fields, but I am always open to experimenting or learning something new.
I would say that my works revolve around themes of personal exploration, growth, change, and inner turmoil, but sometimes I simply enjoy drawing whimsical illustrations of Tough Stuff.
My creative process is quite unpredictable and chaotic. Sometimes a clear visual instantly comes to mind, and I am eager to transfer it to paper as quickly as possible, while at other times, a word or feeling gets stuck in my mind and can marinate for months before it matures into something beautiful (or not so beautiful). The best practice so far has been to write everything down—thoughts, song lyrics, funny street situations, poems I liked. I notice that good ideas tend to grow among the good thoughts of other good people.
